Here researchers are investigating the association of the age like child, teens, and adults, and their learning cooking skills with five factors. The factors are cooking practice, cooking attitudes, skills retention, diet quality, and health. Though the researchers study the learning sources, so it was not considered for the investigation.

A cross-sectional survey with 1049 candidates ages between 20 to 60 years was by the representative of the Republic of Ireland. The survey includes the validated measures like chopping, budgeting, food safety, diet quality, cooking attitudes, and health. Candidates also declared the sources of learning their cooking skills.


Results show, that the primary source of learning was the mother. Children above 12 years and teens from 13 to 18 years are in greater numbers and are confident in their cooking skills, cooking attitudes, diet quality, cooking practices, and health.

Though mother remained the main source of primary learning about cooking, a report states that it will be no longer for the mother to teach the skills to the next generation. The report also states that it is important to learn cooking skills at an early age for confidence, cooking practice, skill retention, attitude, health, and diet quality.

In modern living “learn to cook” was rated as the 5th most important life skill surveyed by the UK, with 2000 residents. The diet quality improved by eating fruits and vegetables is linked with cooking skills. People are learning cooking skills as a part of other initiatives to prevent diet-related diseases, mainly obesity.
Cooking skills and food skills are increasing in recent days, interventions means to improve the outcome of diets. Interventions are varying in teaching methods like demonstrations, provision, and practical hands and are target to people of all ages.
